With the possibility of China becoming involved in HS2, a different type of high speed transportation comes to mind. Maglev.
China have a proven engineeeing capability in Maglev systems. If HS2 was to be a Maglev, with speeds of 268mph, the journey time to London could be cut to a little over half an hour.
A feasibility study should be considered.

Sorry not Chinese, but Siemens and Thyssenkrupp joint venture
