Fifty years of health and fitness were celebrated at Bramcote Leisure Centre yesterday as it officially marked its 50th birthday after first opening on 18th June 1965.
In honour of the special day, Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe, Councillor Susan Bagshaw visited the leisure centre to present employees with a special swimming pool shaped cake and enjoy a quick swimming lesson from swimming coaches.
As part of the celebrations, members and employees also took part in an all-day challenge to see how many sets of 50 miles they can complete during a run, swim, cycle, row and run circuit. An impressive total of 285 was completed during five sets.
To mark its significant birthday, all three of the Council’s leisure centres are offering a special offer on its Vitality Fitness Memberships for this week only to reduce the cost of the first month’s membership from £29.95 to £19.65, the year the centre first opened. The joining fee is also reduced as part of the offer from £19.95 to £19.65.
Bramcote Leisure Centre first opened in 1965 with just a swimming pool. It has since seen the addition of fitness facilities, a health suite and a football pitch which have seen 30 million visits from residents across the Borough over the past 50 years.
