Hannah Anderson (Events and Marketing Officer), TravelRight Broxtowe writes: It’s been a great year for cycling and in Nottingham the recent increases in cycle trips shows no sign of stopping around the 30% mark. September’s weather has made cycling a pleasure throughout but the onset of colder weather in October and the clocks going back provide a reason to use other forms of transport which might not keep you healthy or might increase road congestion. But it doesn’t have to be that way!
TravelRight Broxtowe is holding a Wonderful Winter Cycling event on the Saturday 01st November between 1.30pm and 4.00pm at Beeston’s Tesco Extra. We will be discussing and demonstrating all the important winter cycling tips which will help keep you safe and sound whatever the weather, road conditions or visibility. Pop in for 5 minutes or stay for the whole 3 hours, it’s up to you.
Tesco and Decathlon will be on hand to help offer a range of winter gear to make cycling safe and enjoyable throughout the coming months. We will also be offering FREE tea, crumpets and cake as well as a few high-visibility freebies! Dr Bike will also be around to give peoples bikes a FREE winter tune up.
Liam Pryszlak, Decathlons Cycles and Customer Services Manager said ” Decathlon are proud to be taking part in such a great event. As a company we look to increase participation in sport and make as many sports as accessible to as many people as possible. Cycling is one of our biggest sports and is growing massively in the UK. We have a fantastic range of safety and winter clothing in store this season and are keen to get more cyclists out on the road! ”
The advice being given out at Tesco will be covering the importance of tyres and their pressure, basic maintenance, cycling hints, appropriate clothing, lights and other equipment. Recognising the risks caused by leaves and ice, we will advise cyclists how to avoid busy and un-gritted roads when weather is bad or visibility is poor.
You will also be able to pick up your own copy of the hints and tips leaflet we have developed.
Cycling in winter can be wonderful but plan ahead and be careful!
