A budding ballerina visited the Town Hall in Beeston last week to thank Broxtowe Borough Council for funding she received towards entering International Ballet Competitions.
Katelyn Severn, 19, from Bramcote, who went to university at the age of 16, graduated with a BA in Classical Ballet with Distinction from the University of the Highlands and Islands, Scotland earlier this month at Perth Concert Hall.
During her time at the university, Katelyn toured China and Scotland and in September 2011, was one of less than 100 dancers worldwide to qualify to compete in the Genee International Ballet Competition in Cape Town, South Africa, a prestigious competition open to 16-19 year olds who have passed the Royal Academy of Dance Advanced 2 examination with Distinction.
Katelyn has received £400 grant aid from Broxtowe Borough Council in recent years.
Following her success at the competition, Katelyn was invited to be an Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance and is now applying for auditions to find work as a ballet dancer in the UK, as well as Europe and America.
Broxtowe Borough Council awards grant aid to individuals who are amateurs in their field and whose excellence is of national or international significance. Funding is offered to individuals where grant aid would enable them to participate in a national or international event.
